Key Note University of Malta - Community Music in institutions: tensions and potentials

Thank you Dr. Jeremy Coleman and Prof. Dr. Philip Ciantar from the University of Malta for inviting me to do a key note on the amazing annual performing arts conference, this year themed "Participation, Creativity and Engagement in the Performing Arts". This was the 11th conference they have hosted, very impressive! It was especially inspiring to meet the other key note speaker Dr. Funmi Adewole Elliott, and learn from her very inspiring journey as a dancer and researcher in the UK and Nigeria. I spoke about Community Music in institutions: tensions and potentials, reflecting on the work of the Konzerthaus Dortmund and the City
library of Munich, and what it means when institutions include community music in their work.

Community Music Modul im Masterstudiengang musik:welt kulturelle Diversität in der musikalischen Bildung, am Centre for World Music Hildesheim. Ich liebe diesen Studiengang, das Team, und die beeindruckenden Studierenden aus der ganzen Welt, ich lerne jedes Mal so viel und komme inspiriert zurück. Ein Danke an Morena Piro die den Kurs so sorgsam und gut koordiniert, ich kann hier auch als Mutter sein was nicht oft möglich ist, diesmal mit meiner jüngsten Tochter im Gepäck.

Abschluss 1. Kohorte Community Music Zertifikatslehrgang

This weekend marked the final weekend of the first community music certificate course, a one year intense community music course, aimed at practitioners, music students and social work students. During the year the participants have intense community music practice training weeks, a seminar about community music thinking and research and they do their own community music project in their community. I am very proud of the students who participated, all participants from across Germany and Switzerland and grateful for the amazing team. The round starts in January 2025!

Danke an Dr. Hans-Joachim Rieß, Geschäftsführer des VdM Hessen für die Einladung einen Vortrag über Community Music zu halten, eine gute Diskussion mit Musikschulleiter*innen über die Potentiale von Community Music für Musikschulen und die spannenden Einblicke in die aktuellen Herausforderungen von Musikschulen in Hessen.

Runder Tisch Musikalische Bildung bei Kulturstaatsministerin Claudia Roth im Bundeskanzleramt in Berlin. Eine Freude, Community Music in der Diskussion um Lösungen für die Probleme in der musikalischen Bildung in Deutschland zu vertreten.

Round table on music education with Minister for Culture Claudia Roth in the Kanzleramt in Berlin. It was a pleasure to represent community music in the discussion to find solutions to problems in music education in Germany.

CMA University of Tampere 2024

We had an amazing Community Music Activity pre conference at the University of Tampere in Finland. We had over 100 people from around the world, talks, practical workshops, a concert cruise on an island, a Finnish saune evening, a day trip, a conference dinner...it was a beautiful time, thank you so much to the CMA team Christine D'Alexander, Kathleen Turner, Nic Coffman, Hala Jaber and Vyv Abla. And a special thank you to Kaarina Marjanen our generous host.

International Journal of Community Music Podcast Series: Community Music Conversations

I am very happy that the first episode of the new International Journal of Community Music Podcast Series: Community Music Conversations has launched today! Roger Mantie and I will be interviewing different authors and editors of the journal to share their insights, their thinking and the journeys that lead to publications in the journal.

 

Community Music Network Germany

I am very pleased about this new publication and these two new videos about the Community Music Netzwerk Germany. I have been devoting a lot of time during the last 10 years in building this network and the videos and the text give a good idea about the work we do for the field of community music in Germany!

1st Greek Community Conference -

So good to work with the greek community on developing community music in Greece. Well done Lida Stamou, Ioannis Litos and Rafaela Troulou for organizing this event - and it was so nice to work with Catherine Birch and Lee Higgins again!
