Fete de la Musique

I’m super happy to be collaborating with Morena Piro and Prof. Dr. Michael Fuhr on a new project for the Fête de la Musique 2027, offering Community Music training to amateur musicians across Germany! The training is completely free of charge, and we have created a program that combines practical Community Music training with reflection and discussion.

Together, we’ll explore:

anti-discrimination and diversity

play and singing in Community Music

excellence and Community Music practice

cultural democracy

power and participation

The programme is a chance to experience some of the approaches, values and practices of Community Music for yourself — and to reflect on how they might shape your own musical practice.

It’s a great opportunity to get a taste of Community Music, meet other practitioners, experiment, reflect and learn together — and it’s all free of charge!

Community Music Activity Commission - International Society of Music Education 2020 - 2026

This summer, I completed my six-year term as Community Music Activity Commissioner and Chair of the Commission at the International Society for Music Education.

One of the best things of serving the field of community music and music education through ISME has been the opportunity to work with—and learn from—some of the most inspiring people in our field who have served on the commission with me: Kathleen Turner, Gillian Howell, Christine D'Alexander, Hala Jaber, Gerard Yun, Nicolas Coffman, Catherine Birch, Vyvienne Abla, and Chi Ying Lam.

I am especially grateful to the International Society for Music Education leadership team, and particularly to Patricia Gonzalez Moreno, our past president, and Jody Kerchner, our current president. What an inspiration to see such strong women leading the organization!

Ryan Zellner, ISME CEO, and Shree Lakshmi Vaidyanathan have been an absolute pleasure to work with. ISME is so lucky to have you both!!

I have also treasured the international collaborations—with Kaarina Marjanen in Finland organizing the 2024 conference, and Deanna Yerichuk, Roger Mantie, Lynn Tucker, Kate Marshall and Doug Friesen for the conference this year in Canada. It's not often one gets to work across the globe with the best people and I am very grateful for this experience!

And, of course, the whole CMA community. What joy to think together about the field we are all so passionate about. The inspiration, fun and community that I have been lucky to be part of since 2014.
