Yesterday I gave a key note address at the interim venue Gasteig P8 at a conference about how cultural institutions use spaces to enable more access. The Munich Philharmonic, the Munich libraries, the Arts Council and interesting projects from Austria and all over Germany took part. You can watch it here.

Musik:Welt Hildesheim - Elbphilharmonie Hamburg

What a beautiful month with so many encounters, finally connecting with people in person again:

A weekend in Hildesheim with the students and colleagues of the MA Musik:Welt Cultural Diversity in Music Education. We learned and listened to the Master thesis projects of the students and spent a beautiful evening celebrating and dancing and singing and eating together. Thank you Morena and Raimund!

Followed by an intense day in Hamburg at the Elbphilharmonie working with the education team and a group of wonderful artists collaborating on a community project. Starting with a tour of the concert hall, to me leading two workshops: one on developing a deeper understanding of community music, followed by a creative arts workshop implementing approaches to community music through dance, spoken word and music. Thank you Ilka, Kian and Charlotte!

Professorship for music in social work / community music at the Hochschule Düsseldorf

And so a new chapter begins in Düsseldorf: I will start as Professor for music in social work / community music!

ROCE - community music at concerthouses in Germany

Thank you to ROCE (La Red de Organizadores de Conciertos Eduvativos), the Spanish association for education activities in concerts, for inviting me to talk at their annual conference on community music in concert halls in Germany. It was supposed to take place in Tenerife, but instead, because of COVID it takes place online In the talk I discuss my experiences in developing Community Music at the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Konzerthaus Dortmund.

I'm happy to share this new Community Music Learning YouTube channel with you, I have worked on this for the last few months with collegues from Canada (Prof. Lee Willingham), Ireland (Dr. Kathleen Turner) and the UK (Prof. Dr. Lee Higgins), and we keep developing it as an ongoing collaboration. It is a growing resource for community music researchers and practitioners.

Community Music Winter School

I'm very excited to announce the Community Music Winter School's programme here, the event will take place from the 02.11.20 until the 04.11.2020 online on Zoom.

I collaborated with collegues from Canada (Prof.Dr.Lee Willingham), England (Prof. Dr. Lee Higgins), Ireland (Dr. Kahleen Turner) in creating this online conference, focussing on Community Music Research, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service and hosted by the catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.

We have all created talks focussing on different aspects of research in community music, the talks are shared publicly on the Community Music Learning YouTube channel.

Soundpainting Workshop mit Carina Dengler: 8. Community Music Salon:
Dienstag 27. November 2018, 17 Uhr bis 20 Uhr, Anmeldung hier.

Soundpainting ist eine Zeichensprache, die in den 1970er Jahren von Walter Thompson entwickelt wurde und mit der man Live-Kompositionen mit Musikern, Tänzern, Schauspielern sowie visuellen Künstlern kreieren kann. In mehr als 35 Ländern wird mit Soundpainting sowohl auf professionell künstlerischer Ebene als auch im Bildungsbereich gearbeitet. Für Kinder ist es eine wunderbare Möglichkeit, sich durch Sprache, Musik oder Bewegung auszudrücken, zu improvisieren und kreativ zu sein.
In diesem Workshop werden die Grundlagen von Soundpainting erforscht, einige Zeichen kennengelernt und damit kurze Performances kreiert. Die Teilnehmer können verschiedene Kunstformen ausprobieren und selbst Soundpainter sein. Es wird auch Beispiele dazu geben, wie man Soundpainting in community settings anwenden kann, z.B. in Schulen oder Flüchtlingsunterkünften.
