Erstes Community Music Buch auf deutsch!


I am co-editing the very first publication dedicated to Community Music in the German language together with Burkhard Hill! It will include articles translated into German by Lee Higgins, Brydie Leigh Bartleet, Don Coffman, Lee Willingham, Dave Camlin and Jess Abrams as well as German authors such as Burkahrd Hill, the Munich Community Music Action Research Group, Wolfgang Mastnak, Marion Haak-Schulenburg, Eric Sons, Julia Zanke, Andre Pittelkau and myself. The book will be a broad introduction into Community Music for all German speaking practitioners and researchers.

Germany Issue at the International Journal of Community Music is out!

I am very happy that the current issue of the International Journal of Community Music is out!
For the first time an entire issue is dedicated to Community Music in Germany and I was lucky enough to work with Prof. Dr. Burkhard Hill as co-editor for this issue and with Prof. Dr. Theo Harthog in the peer review committee.
The issue contains articles by Prof. Dr. Bernd Clausen, Prof. Dr. Thomas Grosse, Prof. DDDr. Wolfgang Mastnak, Dr. Andreas Wölfl, Prof. Dr. Elke Josties, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Hill, Prof. Dr. Theo Hartogh and myself.

Die Tagung „Community Music in Theorie und Praxis“ wurde von der Hochschule München, Fakultät für angewandte Sozialwissenschaften, Professur für Bewegung, musische Bildung, kreatives Gestalten, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Hill ausgerichtet.

Konzept und Leitung Community Music

In January 2015 the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra commissioned me to lead and develop their first community music programme culminating in performances in November 2015.

I developed and lead four projects with musicians from the orchestra and partners in the city.
1. a Community Orchestra in collaboration with Wolfi Schlick of the Express Brass Band

3. a project in collaboaration with the Freie Musikzentrum Munich's programm Drumpower, developing a performance based on a story with a primary school

Runder Tisch Musik

On the 23rd of May the Department of Cultural Education hosted the first Round Table Music for practitioners and organisation who work in the field of music education in Munich. I was invited to co-host the day, in collaboration with the director of education of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra (Simone Siwek) and the Youth Centre Quax (Florian Knappick). I lead an exercise about the principles of cultural education (for example participation, accessiblity, diversity) and briefly introduced my research project on community music in Munich.

Moderation Diskussion Kreativquartier München

January 2014
I was invited to moderate a discussion between the director of the Munich Planning Council, the director of the Munich Arts Council, representatives of the council, local politicians and a cooperative of artists (Labor München), to resolve a conflict regarding the temporary use of empty buildings and the long term strategy for arts and culture in this soon to be regenerated area in Munich.
